Beginning September 2016, we will be at DePaul University in the Department of Environmental Science and Studies. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Stay tuned for more updates.
Public Release of MycoDB
MycoDB, the largest ecological meta-analysis database, contains data from over 4000 mycorrhizal inoculation experiments - linked to plant and fungal phylogenies - and can be used to analyze the ecological and evolutionary contexts in which mycorrhizal fungi are beneficial to plant hosts. You can download the data here and it's full description here. Enjoy, explore, discover!
I was recently interviewed by National Geographic Magazine in honor of World Soil Day. Check out the cool article here!
I'll be speaking at the Advocates for Urban Agriculture Fall Gathering Tuesday November 10th, 2015, in Loyola's Institute of Environmental Sustainability.
The title of my talk is "Cultivating soil biology - lessons from Native American agriculture". Come say hi to me!
I'll be giving a public talk at Geek Bar on October 6th, 2015, as part of the Chicago Council on Science and Technology SPEAKEASY Series. Come check it out! "The United Nations has recognized 2015 as the International Year of Soils, yet how many of us appreciate the fact that we can’t eat, breathe, drink, or maintain healthy communities without good soil. Let’s talk dirty and explore the diverse and complex world of soil as well as how local scientists manage soil systems to maintain ecosystem services. Come learn how Chicago scientists are incorporating soil organisms into green roofs to manage storm water, cool neighborhoods, and reduce energy costs. Also, learn what you can do to improve soil health in your own backyard and beyond."
I was recently interviewed by Michigan Public Radio for a piece on World Soil Day. Check it out!
Check out our new paper in the journal Fungal Ecology on landscape-scale spatial patterning of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in arid shrublands!
CONGRATS to Sarah Ashcraft-Johnson and Susanna Lohmar, recipients of the 2014 IES Soil Ecology Research Fellowship! As you can see they are already hard at work and I can't wait to see the great things they accomplish this year!
SOIL ECOLOGY INTERNSHIP The lab is hiring a 2014 Summer Research Intern. Download info
The new Institute of Environmental Sustainability is open and we are moved in! Check out the cool video below highlighting Loyola, the Institute of Environmental Sustainability and soil research in the amazing new facilities!
